The income tax declaration 2018 has started stronger than ever this year: 20.35 millions taxpayers will present the declaration (1.8% more than the previous year). The deadline for submission will be between April 2 and July 1, 2019, except when the payment has been domicile, in those cases the deadline is June 26.

In general, some relevant changes are included in this exercise. It will be returned more money than it will given in this campaign due to the excessive withholdings of the previous year. Therefore, it is necessary to take special care with the deductions of paternity and maternity benefits since it is not taxed by them. In addition, the tax rate for lower incomes has been reduced.

Who has to make the income tax declaration?

All taxpayers who reside in Spain, except those who have earned 22,000 euros or less per year, provided they come from a single payer. Neither will have to make it those who have as a single income a retirement pension, pension plan, group insurance, mutual benefits or other insurance benefits, among others. In the case that several jobs have been taken (with different payers), those who received less than 12,643 euros per year will not have to make the declaration.

What other news are included this year?

Increase deduction for maternity. Increases 1,000 euros in addition to the 1,200 annual already in force in the case of having daycare expenses.

Higher deductions for investment in new companies. Taxpayers who invest in newly created companies may deduct 30% of the amount up to a maximum of 60,000 euros.

Deduction by large family. It will be 600€ for each child from the fourth, in this year only computes the last quarter that corresponds to a maximum of 250€.

Deduction for a dependent spouse with a disability. A deduction of 1,200 euros per year (100 monthly) is applied, applicable from August, so that the maximum deduction will be € 500.

Deduction of those who have the rest of the family unit in another State of the European Union. It is equated as if they had their residence in Spain.

The possibility of requesting the ‘pre-declaration’ of paper income disappears. The preview of the draft can be obtained in printed form.

Important issues to keep in mind

It is also necessary to check the union dues or political ones, the subsidies received, family and maternity deductions, those related to investment in usual residence and, above all, the autonomic deductions.
